Oh my goodness. There are so many events at the Anchorage Public Library this month that I don’t think I have the wherewithal to post each one individually. So here’s a link to our January Newsletter (PDF)
In other news, APL locations have been named as sites for picking up AK Permanent Fund Dividend applications. The state is making a big push for going paperless so we’ve received fewer applications than ever. Remember, you can apply online at http://www.pfd.alaska.gov/ and the libraries have Internet access if you don’t.
Staffing reductions at the Samson-Dimond and Muldoon branch libraries will affect hours of operation. Beginning January 2, 2010 hours of operation for these two locations will be:
Tuesday 3pm – 7pm
Wednesday 10am – 6pm
Thursday 10am – 6pm
Friday 10am – 6pm
Saturday 12pm – 6pm
Hours at the Girdwood and Chugiak-Eagle River branches will remain the same. Hours at Loussac will remain the same.
Just a reminder that the all APL locations will be closed Thursday, Dec 24th and Friday, December 25th.
Also the libraries will be closed Thursday, December 31st and Friday, January 1st.
All locations have book drops so you can still return materials.
You can log on to the website (www.anchoragelibrary.org) to renew items and place holds. You just need your library card number and four digit PIN.
We’ve wrapped up our Fall/Winter storytime schedule for 2009 but there are still plenty of opportunities to visit your local library before you ring in the new year.
There’s an Alaskan author’s book reading Saturday, December 19th (that’s tomorrow) at 3pm in the story theater at the Loussac Library.
Also December 26th there’s a meeting of the Little Dipper’s Book Club at 10:30am at the Loussac Library.
And on December 29th there’s a meeting of the Teen Advisory Board at 3:30pm also at the Loussac Library.
Remember, our website also has event information. Plus, you can check out new titles online (Bookletters), check out our selection of Book Club Bags, and download audiobooks from our Special Services page!
The 2010 budget recently passed by the Anchorage Assembly and Mayor Sullivan will bring some changes to programming and services at APL. All libraries will be losing part-time staff; the branches will be closed more days during the week…more on this in coming days.
Because of a loss of part-timers, particularly on the weekends, the Loussac Library book discussion group will no longer be meeting during the regular and much beloved time slot on Saturday afternoons. Instead, we will be meeting on the 2nd Thursday of the month at 3 pm in the Ann Stevens Room.
We realize that this transition will be difficult for some (particularly with those who work during the week) and we apologize. We discussed other options (evenings, Sundays, volunteers…) but this was the best solution.
So again, the book club will be meeting:
2nd Thursday every month (starting Jan 14th) at 3pm
Ann Stevens Room, level 3.
January’s title is The Lace Reader by Brunonia Barry and is available for check out at the 3rd floor Reference desk RIGHT NOW!
As always, check our website for the latest news and events.
More changes to come. Stay tuned.
